 Tesfa is a local charity encouraging and working with a local eco minded community in North Wollo Mountains near Lalibela to develop facilities for visitors for those keen trekkers wishing to explore the breath taking scenery, real culture of the highlanders around Lalibela. Trekking camps have already been organized in Meket Woreda by the community assisted by Tesfa. The communities have built Tukuls ( round thatched house), equipped with beds, clean bed sheet, blankets and towels at the camping sites including Mequet(Meket),Wajela, Ataro and Yidikulay.
 They have also meals served at the Tukuls in the camping sites. There is also opportunity to meet local people including little boys and girls watching their sheep, cattle, horses and donkeys. Older girls can be seen fetching water from springs along the way, and the men ploughing fields with oxen, engaging in harvesting activities or other agricultural work depending on the time of year and day of the month (on saints days it is forbidden to engage in many activities).Tours to this off the beaten trail can be organized from Addis Ababa and Lalibela by Touch Ethiopia Tours. |
